Elekit TU-8850 Single Ended Tube Amp Kit

Elekit TU-8850 Single Ended Tube Amp Kit

The new TU-8850 power amp from Elekit is a 'tube roller's dream', an amplifier kit which allows users to try various types of octal base (US8P) pentode and major beam tubes. Get more from the music you love with this exciting new Elekit design.

In this amplifier, the bias condition is kept at an optimal level for the output tubes installed without a complicated bias adjustment by "Active Automatic Bias Adjustment System". In addition, the amplifier is equipped with a power mode switch on the top panel. Selecting from 3 operation modes, HIGH, MID and LOW, users can try various types of output tubes, small to medium tubes, such as 6L6 to bigger ones like KT150, KT170, etc.

Output tubes operation mode switching system

For pentode and beam tubes, Triode connection is accomplished by connecting the screen grid to the plate. This amplifier has an operation mode switch on the top panel so that users can easily enjoy the sound difference in 2 different modes, UL (Ultra Linear) and Triode modes.

Gain switching jumpers

This is a power amplifier typically used in conjunction with a preamplifier. However, with the TU-8850 gain switching is enabled by moving a jumper socket position and it is possible to connect the amplifier directly to a LINE output of a sound source device without a preamplifier in between.

Elekit TU-8850

I purchased The TU-8850 12 months ago. It is an amazing kit, comprised of high-quality components and the best instruction manual ever.
The kit is very well laid out and plenty of space to enable anyone to build it.
I spent 3 days assembling the kit and checking, it powered up first go and sounded very impressive via B&W 704 S3 speakers.
I opted for the upgraded Lundal output transformers and also upgraded the coupling capacitors.
The sheet metal work was very well finished and looks good in my system next to the Elekit TU-8550 Pre Amp which i also purchased from Stephen.
The kit doesn't come with valves so you get to choose your favourites.
I installed Ray Tube Select 12AU7 and have tried Ray Tube Select EL-34, and Ray Tube Select KT-88 and currently running KT-150 all sound great but i prefer the KT-150. The amp can use many different valves in high, medium or low power modes and switchable between Triode or Ultra Linear modes.
Very happy with this unit and the pre amp and the support from Stephen.

A Tube Rollers Dream

Like most Audiophiles, I have more amplifiers than chairs in my house, not because I have a fetish for collecting them but the result of years of looking for what sounds best on high efficiency Horn Speakers. In general low power SET amps between 4 to 16 watts have been the best match for speakers with sensitivity 95 to 105db.

My Khorns only need 6 watts and a great match with EL34 tubes. My Altec 604-8G Monitors need at least 15 – 20 watts with a KT88 or KT120 driving them. Do I buy two more amps or look for another solution?

This is where the Elekit TU-8850 Pentode SET amp come in. I have a level of flexibility, power outputs and tube options beyond my wildest dreams. With the flick of a switch I can tube roll from low power 6L6 to EL34 to high power KT170 tubes. Power output from 4 watts to 16 watts depending on the tube and SET or Ultra Linear mode.

Build quality of the kit is second to none. I went with the Lundahl output transformer upgrade that is worth every cent.

Sound quality is fresh, alive, crisp, and accurate with typical SET Midrange perfection. Bass is surprisingly big for a SET amp without being vague. Noise-wise, it's dead quiet.
